Chósta – Honesty

A music video for Irish electronic artist Chósta, built around a single character navigating loss, memory, and the slow work of resolution.

The film follows Alex, played by Michelle Lucy, across a combination of locations and a small studio build. The budget was tight, the crew was small, and the shoot had the run-and-gun energy that comes with both — moving fast, reading what each location gave us, and making decisions on the fly rather than from a locked storyboard.

That approach suits certain material. A track like Honesty has an emotional looseness to it, and a rigid production would have worked against that. Staying light on our feet meant we could follow the performance rather than direct around it, and Michelle gave us enough to work with that the edit had real options.

The studio sequences were the more controlled element — a deliberate contrast to the exterior material, giving the cut somewhere to breathe and reset between the more kinetic location work.

The result holds together as something cohesive despite the conditions it was made in. Vibrant where it needs to be, considered where it counts.
